A Few Gems Amid the Flotsam
Among the posters peeling off Milan’s walls last week was one bearing a dozen names: “Jasper Morrison, Marc Newson, Konstantin Grcic” and so on. The details of an event, entitled Amateur Share, were printed at the bottom, implying that Mr. Morrison, Mr. Newson, Mr. Grcic and the other famous designers on the list were either hosting it or, at the very least, would be there.
One giveaway was that the names included those of Guy Debord, the late Situationist theorist, and one of his influences, the 19th-century poet Isidore Ducasse. Another was the suggestion that anyone coming should bring “drinks, cigarettes, spirit and discussion.” No free booze then. “I don’t know anything about it,” said Mr. Newson. “I think it’s a joke. Quite a good one though.”
